Damage to liver cells (hepatocytes) by hepatitis B, C, D, alcohol, etc. leads to the growth of connective tissue in the liver, where it no longer performs its functions. This process is called liver fibrosis. Without proper treatment, which would prevent the growth of connective tissue in the liver and restore damaged cells, fibrosis progresses and leads to cirrhosis.
Liver fibrosis: Symptoms and diagnostics
Often, liver fibrosis is asymptomatic, and it is impossible for the patient to self-identify it (especially at the initial stages). Sometimes, there is a decrease in performance efficiency, rapid fatigability, rapid emergence of bruises, haematomas. Explicit clinical manifestations can appear in 5–10 years — increased spleen, portal hypertension, stomach and oesophagus haemorrhage, decreased number of leukocytes. At the same time, the patient condition is relatively satisfactory.
To diagnose liver fibrosis and its stages, the following methods are mainly used:
Liver fibrosis stages
There are 5 stages (grades) of liver fibrosis:
If the cause of liver fibrosis is viral hepatitis, the transition period from one stage to another (fibrosis proliferation) takes about 5 years on average. Fibrosis develops much faster at the last stages. In addition, the rate depends on whether the patient has got rid of a source of fibrosis (hepatitis virus or alcohol intake). The fibrosis degree is diagnosed by the liver elastometry.
years are the period of the fibrosis worsening

are life expectancy of people with liver fibrosis
Essence of treatment
treatment of the cause of fibrosis, as well as intake of the so-called hepatoprotectors, which only slow down fibrosis worsening
treatment of the cause of fibrosis and therapy aimed at complete liver restoration
slowing the disease progression; over time — the need for liver transplantation
the patient is healthy, active, lives a full long life
Life expectancy after treatment
5–10 years; and 5 more years providing successful liver transplantation
within the lifespan of a healthy person
Appointment for the consultation by a doctor of the REHENERATSIIA Clinic
Examination of the patient, diagnostics of the cause of fibrosis and its degree
Prescription of an individual treatment regimen aimed at eliminating the cause of fibrosis and restoring damaged liver cells
Regular monitoring of the treatment dynamics, if necessary, adjustment of the treatment regimen, management of the patient until recovering
